Greensboro Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival

Posted

The Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company’s annual carnival was held  July 8 to July 12, 2025. The event brings rides, food, fun, and fireworks to town, all while raising necessary funds for the local volunteer fire company.

The carnival has been around for decades. “I’ve been with [the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company] since 2011, and they’d already been doing it,” said Larry Dickerson, this year’s carnival coordinator. It’s Dickerson’s first time serving in this role, and he’s been working since November to get plans in place. “It takes a lot of emails, phone calls, and time,” he said.

“It helps us give back to the community, but it’s also how we raise money,” Dickerson explained. The funds raised during the carnival support needs such as the firemen’s gear, which can cost up to $5,000 per set. The fire company also hopes to build a new station in the near future. Dickerson said this year’s goal is to raise around $15,000.

Despite a forecast filled with thunderstorms, organizers were optimistic, “playing it day by day.” Dickerson hoped to draw around 1,000 attendees to the carnival throughout the week.

The carnival was able to have its fireworks display, a fan favorite.
