CASA of Caroline hosted its 5th Annual Pinwheels for Prevention "planting" ceremony on Wed., April 16, at the Wharves of Choptank Visitor & Heritage Center.
The ceremony is in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, focusing attention on the alarming reality of children experiencing abuse or neglect.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at least one in seven children in the U.S. has faced abuse and/or neglect in the past year. Even more troubling, over 600,000 children are reported as abused or neglected annually. Children living in low socio-economic households face an especially high risk, with rates of abuse and neglect five times higher than those in families with greater financial stability.
CASA of Caroline works to ensure every young person who has experienced abuse or neglect can find a safe, permanent home—and the chance to thrive. A resilient family relies on strong support systems, whether that’s relatives, friends, neighbors, or dedicated community resources.
