Marydel Lions Club Continues To Serve In These “Uncharted Waters”.

While all of us continue to adjust to the “new normal” in these challenging times, the members of the Marydel Lions Club look forward to the days when we can resume and expand our full Club activities of serving the children, youth, families, adults and seniors that reside in the Marydel area of the Mason Dixon Line. Our Club’s service area includes the upper portion of Caroline County and the northeastern portion of Queen Anne County in Maryland and a major western portion of Delaware’s Kent County.
Our major fundraisers, our “Eastern Shore Style” BBQ Chicken Dinners, along with our Club’s “World Famous Funnel Cakes”, as well as Lion Joanna Reedy’s regionally acclaimed “Purse Biogo” events are, for the moment, on hold. Rest assured that as soon as we can hold these events we will let you know via ads in the Caroline Review. In the meantime, our Club will continue to fund those community services, projects, and activities that are in our 2019-2020 Budget.

A major portion of our Club’s ongoing success can be attributed to the excellent support that we have received from The Caroline Review. Loretta Warfield, Publisher, and husband, Rich, are dedicated professionals, and have been very helpful and gracious in sharing with the publication’s readership the Club’s monthly activities. So, congratulations on the forthcoming 40th Anniversary of The Caroline Review.

By the way, if you feel led to share your time and talents in service to our communities, the Marydel Lions Club would be pleased to have you join us as a member. Contact Terry Higgins at tmhiggins59@hotmail.com for more information.

Lions Continue to Assist Local Residents During Covid-19 Quarantine

The Ridgely & Greensboro Lions Clubs operate a Durable Medical Equipment Loan Closet in our local community. We do this by re-purposing good used medical equipment to people in need. Most referrals come from local healthcare and social service providers. Due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) these referrals have been greatly reduced, so Lions have had to modify their distribution of medical equipment by screening clients and caregivers about any exposures to Covid-19 and utilizing proper PPE (personal protective equipment) to make deliveries and set-ups in client’s homes.

In late March and April we were able to assist several individuals in our community who needed some help for the patient and the caregivers. One family had their mother/grandmother coming home from a senior care facility after being cleared of any coronavirus infection. We were able to provide them with a residential hospital bed so she could safely social distance at home with her family.

We got a request from a husband in Greensboro who was acting as his wife’s caregiver and he needed a hospital bed and a shower chair so she could rehab at home following her back surgery. After determining that no one in the house had any flu like symptoms or exposure to Covid-19, we were able to safely deliver both items.

Lions 22B’s District Governor John Lawrence referred a Kent County MD mother who wanted to donate her late son’s pediatric wheelchairs so someone else might be able to make use of these valuable pieces of equipment. So with the help of Chestertown Lion Richard Coffman, we donned our PPE and took possession of a Quickie QM-710 electric wheelchair and a Sunrise Medical Zippie GS manual wheelchair. So if you have a need for or know of someone who might need a pediatric wheel chair, then give us a call The Upper Shore Aging office in Chestertown is one of agencies that partners with Lions to help provide medical equipment to local residents. They had a family in Denton who needed an electric stair lift to assist a gentleman coming home from a rehab facility. The family’s Denton home has only one full bathroom on the second floor. A donor in Trappe had a stair lift to donate but the family had no way to get it to their Denton residence. Borrowing a trailer Ridgely Lion Dave Davis was able to get the stair lift delivered to Denton.

If you know of someone in need of assistance, then have their caregiver or healthcare provider contact the Ridgely or Greensboro Lions Clubs to see if we are able help. Message us at www.facebook.com at Ridgely Lions Club or Greensboro MD Lions Club. If you are reading this and have some good used durable medical equipment that you would like to donate to our project then let us know. We will even pick it up. The Lions Clubs International motto is “We Serve”, so if we can serve you or you can help us serve others, then let us know. Also contact us at ridgelylions@verizon.net
