Choptank Marina boat ramp replacement project

Choptank Marina boat ramp replacement project is nearing completion. Thanks to funding from the Maryland Waterway Improvement Program and a federal Boating Access grant, the new ramp facility is targeted to open by Memorial Day weekend. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting and community celebration to mark the return of this important public access point to the lower Choptank will be set in the Fall.

CCRP staff tele-working

CCRP staff may be tele-working in response to the Stay Home/Stay Safe/Save Lives directive by the State Governor and the Caroline County Commissioners, but they are also actively supporting the County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and our community response to COVID-19. Deputy Director Jamie Beechey is a relentless problem-solver and the logistics point-person at the EOC to secure a supply of personal protective equipment, hand sanitizer, and other materials necessary to keep First Responders, health care workers and other essential staff safe during this pandemic response.

Delivery of thousands of meals for seniors and students
Stacy Seward, Program Services Supervisor is coordinating the delivery of thousands of meals for seniors and students in partnership with Caroline County Public Schools Food Services, and Park Supervisor Mark Lasocha performs the general maintenance of a network of regional, community and neighborhood parks to ensure there is green space to access for a safe personal health break in the outdoors.

Although CCRP is not accepting athletic field and facility reservations until after June 1 and some park equipment is closed for public use, the outdoors is open!! Trails at the North and South County regional Parks, your local State Parks and the open play spaces can be a welcome respite for exercise, exploring and enrichment. Rules are posted on Park Information Boards to reinforce physical distancing and small group requirements for your safety and others.

Finally, summer program development presents some uncharted challenges in 2020. Given the current State of Emergency, we have a temporary hold on the dates for our summer program operations, particularly the June 29-July 30 Summer Learning Centers at three Elementary Schools, the June 28 – July 1 Young Musicians Summer Academy, Red Cross Swimming Lessons, and August 21 & 22 for the 32nd Caroline Summerfest Family Arts and Entertainment Festival in Downtown Denton. We are indeed planning for these events, but we are also in constant contact with our program partners (Public School, 4-H, Maryland State Parks, and others) and other governing agencies to help guide our decisions. The safety and health of our citizens, our employees, and our partners is a top priority.

If you have questions, our phones are still being answered during regular business hours by the ever-reliable Linda Rees, 410-479-8120, or find us online at carolinerecreation.org.

CCRP’s Stacy Seward stacks the rack for the weekly food distribution in the north county region in partnership with CCPS.
