Walmart Grand Re-Opening

DENTON – The Denton Walmart Supercenter marked its grand re-opening on the morning of Friday, Aug. 15, with a ribbon-cutting and community celebration after finally completing a months-long remodel.

After an impressive performance of the national anthem, Store Manager April Holmes opened the event by presenting donations to local nonprofits: $4,000 to Men for Change and $3,000 to His Hope Ministries. Stefanie Johnson of His Hope praised the store as “an impeccable place in this community…a great partner to be in the community with.” The Caroline County Chamber of Commerce’s Dave Harper joked, “I always say that Walmart is like the unofficial county seat, because I see every person and soul in this store.”

Holmes recognized the over 300 associates, remodel crews, and local business partners who contributed to the project. “Teamwork was the name of this project,” she said. Walmart employees sported new shirts with the phrase “Individuals don’t win—teams do” printed on the back. She credited her staff for “tireless hours” put into the remodel. The remodeled store now features updated departments, refreshed layouts, and a new mural by artist Gabrielle Wilidheart that honors Denton’s agricultural heritage, which is painted on the wall inside the right entrance.

Attendees enjoyed free hot dogs, ice cream from Vanderwende’s, and drinks. Brands like Pepsi, Red Bull, and more had tents set up to greet customers as a DJ kept the music going in the parking lot.
