Virgil Phillips, beloved son, husband, father, and friend, passed away on July 1, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and unforgettable moments that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Virgil is survived by his loving wife, Morgan Godfrey; their two amazing sons, Atreyu Phillips and Finn Phillips; and his devoted mother, Denise Melton, whose strength and love shaped the man he became. He is also survived by many more family members and friends who deeply loved and cared for him.
Virgil was a man of great heart and passion — a true lover of rock and roll, with a lifelong admiration for Elvis Presley. Music wasn’t just something he enjoyed; it was part of his soul. His laughter, energy, and fierce devotion to his family created a rhythm that touched everyone around him.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Jenny Mitchum, and his stepfather, Rusty Melton, whose memories he carried with love and honor.
Though his time here ended far too soon, the love he gave, the joy he brought, and the memories he leaves behind will echo forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 31st at Cherry Lane Tuckahoe Pavilion. Celebration will be from Noon until the last person leaves. This will be a potluck-style gathering — please bring a covered dish or dessert to share. In honor of Virgil’s love for music, please wear a rock & roll or favorite band shirt.
To help create memory books for his boys, please bring a written memory and/or photos of or with Virgil to share.
