Animal Safe Surrender Options through Caroline County Humane Society

Posted

Caroline County Humane Society received an animal in the overnight hours of May 20 – 21, a circumstance that was apparently the result of a pet owner who was no longer able to care for the animal.

As individuals’ economic circumstances become more strenuous, those who feel they are not in a position to care for an animal have safe surrender options, as shared by CCHS.

If you are no longer able to care for your pet, no matter the reason, please know that there are safe options available and that our goal is always to help animals remain safe. We understand that life circumstances can change and we are not here to judge anyone for needing help.

To surrender a pet to Caroline County Humane Society:

  • Fill out the surrender request form on our website carolinehumane.org
  • Once received, our staff will review the information and contact you about next steps
  • Depending on space and the animal’s needs, we may schedule an intake appointment, place the pet on a waitlist, or provide additional resources and guidance

If you are facing an emergency situation outside of our business hours or we are unable to immediately accept the animal, please contact Caroline County Animal Control at 410-479-4007. They can safely pick up the animal and ensure they are cared for properly.

There are also rehoming resources available that may help pets avoid entering the shelter system altogether:

  • Home To Home
  • Adopt A Pet
  • Breed specific rescues for certain breeds or special needs pets

These resources and additional surrender information can all be found on our website.

Even in difficult situations, there are people and organizations willing to help.

We are not only here to serve the animals but our community as well, we want to be a trusted partner in your pet owner journey no matter what stage you are in.
