Tractor Supply Gets Preliminary Approval for Denton Location

Posted

DENTON – Denton Town Councilmember Frank Taylor reported at the October 2 Council Meeting that Tractor Supply has been granted preliminary approval by the Planning Commission for a potential location in Denton, but there is still more work to do until ground can be broken.

The hardware and agricultural supply chain hopes to build a store at 325 Fleetwood Road, which is next to the Best Western hotel near McDonald’s. “They were approved pending certain needs and requirements,” Councilman Taylor said. The Town Council voted unanimously to approve the company’s request for water and sewer allocation at the site.

Councilman Taylor added that at the Planning Commission meeting on September 30, many citizens who live on Fleetwood Road raised concerns over increased traffic. “Their biggest concern is truck delivery going through the back of Tractor Supply. There will be an opening back there — there has to be an opening back there for emergency services and things of that nature… they will attempt to possibly come up with some solutions for that, but they stated that their intention is to have deliveries come through the front of the building,” Councilman Taylor said, “the road itself is not meant to handle tractor-trailers.”

Councilman Keith Johnson mentioned the legal restrictions and the possibility of the town introducing legislation regarding the use of Fleetwood Road for vehicles over a certain weight.

Councilman Taylor added in a brief conversation after the meeting that there are still several stipulations that the company has to meet before they can get final approval, and a public hearing would need to be held. According to his expertise, even if all went according to plan and barring any appeals, construction would not begin for a “minimum” of  “six to nine months.”
