RIDGELY – It was a packed house at the Ridgely Town Commission meeting on Monday, November 3, as community members showed out to pay tribute to a local legend, Brenda Walls.

Walls is retiring and has closed the beloved Ridgely Pharmacy after 22 years. Ridgely’s commissioners formally presented Walls with a Certificate of Appreciation, along with flowers, for her dedication to her Ridgely customers and local philanthropic efforts. While awarding Walls with the Certificate, Commission President Brad Sears said, “Through her commitment, compassion, and professionalism, Brenda has exemplified the highest standards of community service and care. The Commissioners of Ridgely extend their heartfelt appreciation and warmest congratulations on her well-deserved retirement.”

Other residents spoke at various times during the meeting about Walls, with Cathy Schwab dedicating part of her Ridgely Historical Society update to thanking her for her support, “Brenda has been, she's been our store for everything,” Schwab said, mentioning that Walls only had four days before closing to sell this year’s Ridgely Christmas balls. She helped sell 50 of them in that time. Later on during public comment, Jamie Romph called Walls “pretty much the heart of the community.”

Cupcakes were available for attendees, as the meeting also happened to fall on Walls’ birthday.
