DENTON — Terae Warner, local business-owner and community advocate, was recognized by the Denton Town Council during their September 4 meeting for his support and involvement in youth basketball.

The citation was two-fold. Warner was recognized for heading the recent Napday Invitational basketball tournament and community event on August 9, which hosted players from all over Maryland and Delaware and offered young players free skills clinics. The annual event is named after Warner’s apparel store, Not A Phase (NAP) Clothing. This was Warner’s 4th year putting on the event.

The citation also included props to Warner for organizing a dedicated group of volunteers to repaint the Sharp Road Park basketball courts. “He spent many hours power washing, prepping, and painting the surface. He also planned for a day for the public to come out and help paint as well,” Denton Mayor Dr. Abby McNinch said, “The court was artistically painted and looks amazing. On behalf of the Denton Town Council, we thank you for all that you do in the community and congratulate you on another successful Napday.”

Warner thanked the Council for “being on board” with his ideas, “I just remember coming in here some years ago, super nervous, no idea what the project would entail, just knowing that I wanted to do something for my community. And you guys supported it. So that actually meant a lot to me. I feel like that was a big step moving forward to help bring more things to the community for the youth.” McNinch added that the increased number of kids she sees playing at Sharp Road Park is a testament to the impact of Warner’s efforts.

Warner’s mom, Rhonda Warner, fiancé, Tyesha Moaney, and two young daughters attended the meeting to see him get his citation. “I’m just trying to do my part,” he said.
