Summerfest burns bright

Posted

DENTON - The first thing you always notice about the annual festival in Denton is the "summer" in Summerfest.

The opening of Summerfest kicked off on Aug. 15 with the elected officials welcoming everyone, and high school band members playing to the delight of audiences young and old.

The sun shined, very brightly and very hotly in the early hours of the festival. The drink stands did a brisk business of selling cool lemonade, waters, and frosty sodas.

As one stood and watched the folks come and go, neighbors greet each other, families share a laugh, one noticed the orange fans from a vendor. The kind of fans reminiscent of church fans, that are perfect to carry around on an August evening in Caroline County.

Arcadia Living, which operates assisted living facilities in town, was giving away handheld fans. They were quite popular.

(I admit I longed for a fan, and I asked a colleague to grab one for me as he headed toward the Arcadia Living booth. When he returned, he said that they were all out. Not surprising, given the warm temperature. Fortunately, when I went to the booth to say hello, they had replenished the highly popular personal cooling system.)

I can honestly say that I am a big FAN of Summerfest

We will have a photo gallery from Mickey Pullen uploaded soon.

Reminder that Summerfest continues Saturday, Aug. 16, opening at 5:00 pm. You can see more information about the lineup on the Summerfest Facebook page.
