This article is an update to the “Staffing issues continue to plague Federalsburg” article, published Oct. 8, 2025.

FEDERALSBURG - The Federalsburg Mayor and Council convened a special meeting on Tues., Oct. 14, to hear from outgoing treasurer Jamie Washington details on bookkeeping and other financial clerical items.

Washington, who has been in the role of town treasurer since March 2025, is resigning, effective Fri., Oct. 17. The role has not been filled with an employee, and according to Mayor Kim Abner, two temporary employees from an employment agency will be performing the tasks. Questions regarding the posting of this position, along with at least four other town positions went unanswered at the time of publication.

According to Abner, members of the Council will oversee the treasurer’s duties, which include bill paying and payroll, while the temporary employees are on board, and until an employee is hired and onboarded. The councilmembers currently share oversight duties that usually fall to a town manager, and in some instances, are performing the work tasks themselves.

The next regularly scheduled workshop meeting of the Federalsburg Mayor and Council is Mon., Oct. 20, according to the town’s website. Time and location have not been posted as of publication, but typically regularly scheduled meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. in person at Town Hall with a virtual option.
