Stumbling upon lemonade stands, timing the crop irrigation system just right so your car gets a mini shower – these are some of the simple things that make us smile even when we’re down in the dumps. One of the best and most unique examples of these is Seekers Kid Care’s Tractor Train.
Seekers Kid Care is owned and operated by Jane Roberts of Denton. She says she was inspired to open her own childcare center after being asked by various friends.
“I was in childcare while my children were young. Once they grew up, I switched careers. Friends with children begged me to start childcare, and the state was offering help at the time, so I did.” Seekers opened its doors in September of 2023. Roberts prides herself on offering a childcare setting where children learn through play, motion, and hands-on activities.
The Tractor Train is a blue and yellow creative masterpiece. Made from a secondhand ride-on lawn mower (without the ability to mow) and some barrels, Roberts’ husband gave the tractor “new life” as a ride for the little ones at Seekers.
“A friend was getting rid of some barrels, so my husband cut them and added seats, sealed the edges, made the connections…Once the toddlers wanted to ride, we added a bicycle child hitch so two babies could be put in a 5-point harness.”
Seekers is located behind Sharp Road Park near Denton Elementary School. Roberts shared that they often ride on the park’s trails, “We ride it as much as we can when weather permitting.” They even had special blankets made for riding on colder days. And despite being given the green light by local law enforcement to take the Tractor Train across the street to DES, Roberts said she sticks to sidewalks and paths where no cars can go “as a personal rule.”
“The Tractor Train was something I’ve always seen my kids enjoy at the malls and other places where they get to ride small trains,” Roberts said, “The kids love it! Their biggest issue is who gets to sit with who!”
