Ruth Anna Bolt of Seaford, DE, aged 88, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, surrounded by her family in Denton, MD. A beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ruth will always be remembered for her kindness, joyful spirit, and steadfast devotion to her loving family.
Ruth was born on December 16, 1935, to Otis Wooleyhand and Florence Ross Wooleyhand in Greensboro, MD. She graduated with the class of 1953 from Ridgely High School. After completing her education, she worked as a secretary for Howard Shockley. On July 2, 1955, she married the love of her life, Marvin Bolt, in Bridgetown ME Chapel in Bridgetown, MD. When her cherished children arrived, she took a break from work, but later returned to the workforce as a teacher’s aide for the Caroline County Public School System. Even after the family's move to Seaford, DE, in 1977, she continued her role as a teacher’s aide at Seaford Middle School. Her most recent position was as an ophthalmology technician. Ruth was an active member of the St. John’s UMC Women’s Group and participated in a square-dancing club with her husband. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, traveling extensively, volunteering at her church and local library, and preserving the family’s history.
Ruth is preceded in death by one sister, Betty Wooleyhand, and six brothers, Elwood, Otis, Thomas “Tommy,” Henry, Elmer, and Edward “George.”
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Bolt, and her three daughters: Brenda Hayman (Edward) of Greensboro, MD; Cheryl Satterfield (Paul) of Ridgely, MD; and Donna Todd (John) of Denton, MD. Additionally, she leaves behind four sisters and three brothers: Mary Catherine Greeson of Easton, MD; Paul Wooleyhand of Dover, DE; William “Bill” Wooleyhand of Sykesville, MD; Barbara Andrew of Ridgely, MD; Wilson Wooleyhand of Denton, MD; Florence “Lizzie” Thompson of Greensboro, MD; and Evelyn “Jeannie” Sherwood of Greensboro, MD. Ruth also leaves a treasured legacy of seven grandchildren: Holly Trice of Denton, MD; Kyle Satterfield of Harrington, DE; Levi Hayman of Greensboro, MD; Samantha Gill of Denton, MD; Allison Todd of Denton, MD; Cody Satterfield of Denton, MD; and Colby Todd of Preston, MD, along with nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on April 12, 2025, from 2-4pm at the Chesapeake Culinary Center 512 Franklin St. Denton Md 21629.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
