Robert E. Ewing, Jr. of Denton, MD, known affectionately as Robbie, Rob or Bob, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 17, 2026. He was 77 years old.

Born in Cambridge, MD on December 23, 1948, Mr. Ewing was the son of the late Robert Edward Ewing, Sr. and Helen Eloise Twilley Ewing. He was a graduate of Newark Senior High School in Newark, DE.

As a child, Robbie started work early, delivering milk across Cambridge in the hours before school alongside his father from his family’s business, Twilley’s Dairy. As a young man, Rob was drafted by the US Army and served his country in combat, earning two Bronze Stars among other honors during his tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he started a career with Avon Products, Inc. that launched his 50-year career in direct mail and marketing. Across his career, Bob made lifelong friendships, retiring in 2023.

Mr. Ewing was a gifted athlete throughout his youth, frequently mentioned in the newspaper for his exploits on the baseball diamond and football field, starting in Little League and Pop Warner through his time on varsity squads. He was a team captain of the Newark Senior High School’s Yellowjackets football team and played in the DRFC Blue-Gold All-Star Games. Later in life, he was proudest of his versatility as a baseball player, having played every position on the field in at least one varsity game. As an adult, Rob was an enthusiastic coach of youth football and enjoyed playing tennis and squash, but every athletic endeavour pales in comparison to his passion for the game of golf.

A very social and engaging person, Rob loved to play golf. He was a member of the Caroline Country Club for many years and was involved with its recent rejuvenation. He was a familiar presence at golf courses across Delmarva, but his favorite was always his home course at CCC. You could find him on the putting green at twilight most nights, or you might spot him driving his golf cart around Williston with his terriers.

Rob will be remembered by those who knew him for his warmth, joviality and irrepressible spirit. He had a booming laugh, larger-than-life personality and a self-deprecating sense of humor. He was friendly to a fault and a gifted conversationalist, making everyone he met feel welcome. Rob had an incredible memory that regularly astounded family members and friends, whether recounting a story from his youth in detail or recalling obscure trivia relevant to any conversation or topic. He loved cars, visiting Disney World and doing crossword puzzles. He had a deep interest in genealogy, tracing his family back to the early 1600s in colonial America. He was proud of his Scottish heritage, and lived by the Ewing clan motto “Audaciter”. May his memory encourage us all to go forward boldly, fearlessly and proudly.

Mr. Ewing is survived by his beloved wife, Stacy Ewing of Denton; a devoted daughter, Glynis Smith Ewing Burner (Jase) and grandchildren Eloise and Harry Burner of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his dear sister, Mrs. Bonnie Stevens of Oxford. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, October 11 at the Caroline Country Club on Pealiquor Road near Denton. The interment will be private at the Veteran’s Cemetery at Beulah. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you share a cherished memory, story or reflection on the online memorial page or directly with his daughter to be preserved for his grandchildren.
