Some stories don’t start with certainty.
Some begin with a fragile little sound.
When he came to us, he was very sick. A stray. Eight years old. His breathing was heavy with mucus, each inhale and exhale carrying a soft, bubbling sound that eventually became his name.
Fishy Glub Glub
We don’t know what his life looked like before that moment. We only know what came after. Fishy spent a long stretch of time under the careful watch of our staff. Medications, treatments, check-ins that became routine. And through all of it, he was patient. Not passive but patient in the way that feels steady and intentional. Like a cat who had decided he was going to see this thing through.
As the days passed, the illness loosened its grip. And as his body healed, Fishy began to show us who he really was. Strong in that quiet, grounded way. Sweet without being demanding. And just a little goofy, the kind of goofy that sneaks up on you and makes you smile when you weren’t expecting to. He tolerated the hard days. He leaned into the good ones. He accepted care without losing himself in the process.
Now, Fishy is healthy and has moved out of the sick room and moved in with the adoptable cats. It's a bittersweet moment for the staff that nursed him back to health. We’re so proud of him but will miss his silly glub glub sound greeting us everyday.
Fishy isn’t defined by the sickness that brought him here, but by the resilience that carried him through it. He is proof that healing doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like consistency, trust, and a cat who keeps choosing to show up. Fishy didn’t rush his way back to health. He took it one breath at a time.
And somehow, that made all the difference.
