In the story of any animal shelter, there are so many dogs that come and go. We hold them all in our hearts for as long as we have them and then we lovingly send them off to their new families, but then sometimes there are the ones that linger. In our kennels and in our hearts. Dusky is one of those dogs for the Caroline County Humane Society.
Things change quickly in the shelter but one constant for the last year and a half has been the pensive, open and patient face of our boy Dusky. Holidays, community events, slumber parties, the heat of summer and winter’s chill, Dusky has been here for it all. We get so used to being greeted at the gate by him or seeing him play out in the yard, it becomes an expected part of our day, a bittersweet comfort. The day he isn’t there to greet me in the big yard as I park my car will be the best, worst day ever.
We don’t know why Dusky has lingered. He’s a wonderful walk partner, a reliable companion for a long drive and of course the most photogenic dog model ever. As the time passes Dusky’s perseverance and hope remain and we will follow his lead. He knows his people are on their way to him and so do we. Until then we will keep on loving him and reminding him just how deserving he is.
If you think Dusky might just be your boy please reach out to us at Caroline County Humane Society. We can’t wait to miss his precious face knowing that he is home with his family!
