Partners In Care Maryland, Inc. Earns Prestigious Seal of Excellence

Posted

Partners In Care Maryland, Inc. (PIC) has been awarded the Seal of Excellence by the Standards for Excellence Institute®. This recognition affirms PIC’s unwavering commitment to the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and accountability in nonprofit governance and management.

The Standards for Excellence Institute, a respected national initiative, rigorously evaluates nonprofit organizations through a comprehensive accreditation process. Achieving this status indicates that PIC has met a demanding set of benchmarks designed to promote sound organizational practices and uphold public trust.

Amy Van Orden, CEO of PIC, expressed pride in the award, stating, “At Partners In Care, we hold ourselves to the highest standards because those we serve deserve nothing less. This accreditation reflects the dedication of our volunteers, staff, and supporters who make our mission of Neighbors Helping Neighbors possible every day.”

The accreditation process is thorough and multifaceted. It involved a detailed three-part review, beginning with an internal self-assessment, followed by a review from certified nonprofit professionals known as peer reviewers, and concluding with a final assessment by the National Standards for Excellence Council. This council comprises experts from various fields, including legal, finance, and human resources, ensuring a well-rounded evaluation of organizational integrity.

PIC’s mission centers on empowering older adults to age with dignity and independence in their communities. As a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) organization, it has built a distinctive culture of service exchange and time banking. Members volunteer their services to support one another, demonstrating the true spirit of Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

Among the programs that exemplify PIC’s impact are its Transportation Program, which provides rides to medical appointments, pharmacies, and grocery stores, ensuring older adults can access essential services safely and comfortably. The Repairs With Care Program helps members maintain safe and functional homes through everyday repairs and safety modifications, such as grab bars and toilet risers. The Member Care Program offers advocacy and social engagement, fostering community connections through educational workshops and social events.

Additionally, PIC operates Upscale Resale Boutiques in Anne Arundel and Frederick County, which serve as social enterprises that raise funds while providing meaningful volunteer opportunities to their members. These boutiques allow community members to connect, contribute, and build relationships—hallmarks of their mission to support aging in place with dignity and respect.

The accreditation places PIC in an elite group of organizations committed to ethical excellence and operational transparency. It demonstrates that PIC has not only met but exceeded standards that safeguard trust and foster community confidence.

For those inspired to make a difference, PIC welcomes volunteers and donors eager to support its vital work. As Derek Milley, Director of Communications at PIC, emphasizes, “Together, we can help older adults thrive and remain in the homes and communities they love.”
