The loss of family and friends stays with you. Grief experts say that you never really stop grieving, and that remembering those who die is an important element in processing grief.
Amy Cawley recognizes the need to remember, and started an annual Memory Walk in Caroline County five years ago.
"This memory walk provides a visual of the impact drugs play in our society—particularly Caroline County and now the Mid-Shore," Cawley says. "Prior to the memory walk, there was no avenue for those to share in the suffering of this overwhelming loss with anyone outside of their circle. This event is open to the public and is an avenue for people to connect, grieve, and heal together. "
The event is organized by Drug Free Caroline, the Local Drug and Alcohol Commission. According to Jessica Tuel, Director, Behavioral Health, Caroline County Local Addiction Authority , "this group consists of law enforcement, clergy, public health, and behavioral health providers who meet monthly to discuss trends, new grant opportunities, plan 'Caroline Goes Purple' events, and develop the county's Behavioral Health strategic plan. "
Mickey Pullen captured the latest Memory Walk on May 12, in Preston.
