It is with sadness that we announce the death of our mom, grandmother, and great grandmother, Kay Dodson Cooper, at the age of 96, on October 2, 2026.
Kay was born on September 8, 1930, in Cambridge, Maryland, to the late Edward Everett Dodson and the late Oneida Stephens Dodson. She grew up in East Cambridge right across the street from the hospital and what she always called the river shore, where she spent a great deal of her childhood. Kay graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1947, which was the last class that only had to attend 11 years to earn their diploma.
Kay met Richard “Dick” Cooper as a blind date for a friend, and they were married 7 weeks later, having a marriage that lasted over 50 years until Dick’s death. After her youngest child was school age, Kay started her working career in the office at Caroline Poultry, which then became Wilson Laurel Farms. After they closed, Kay worked for the law firm of Miller, Wheeler, Thompson and Thompson in Easton, ending her working career as the Personnel Manager at Solo Cup Company.
Kay loved her town of Federalsburg and in the mid 70’s she ran for a seat on the Town Council. She won and was very proud to serve, with the distinction of being the first woman elected to the council, never missing a meeting.
Church was also a very important part of Kay’s life. While living in Federalsburg she was a member of Christ United Methodist church. Kay sang in the choir, and also sang with a gospel troop called the Christian Troopers. Before moving to Easton Kay attended Union United Church.
Kay is predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Ann Dodson and June Dodson Calloway; her husband Dick, her beloved daughter Christine Cooper Watkins, and her son-in-law Bruce Levin. She is survived by her son, Jim and his wife Judy of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; daughter, Laura Levin of Easton; grandchildren Lindsay Scoville, Stephanie Price, Reid Levin, and Ryan Levin; 5 great grandchildren, Henry, Josephine, Cooper, Margot, and Brody; and a very special niece and nephew, Steve Calloway and Page Moyer. The family would also like to thank the caring staff at ACTS Willowbrook and also Talbot Hospice for their outstanding care.
Funeral services will be held at Bolden-Tilghman Funeral Home in Federalsburg on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Visitation will start at 12:00, with the funeral following at 1:00 pm.
