Juneteenth in Caroline County in Photos

Posted

Mt. Pleasant Acres Farms in Preston was the backdrop for Caroline County’s 2025 celebration of Juneteenth on June 19.

Juneteenth - short for "June Nineteenth" - became an official federal holiday in 2021.  It marks the date in 1865 that a group of enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom from bondage via the Emancipation Proclamation, though it was over two years after the document’s signing. Juneteenth is a symbolic celebration of the end of slavery in the United States and the enduring spirit of the African American community.

These photos, captured by Mickey Pullen, show locals enjoying all that Juneteenth in Caroline County had to offer, including vendors, speakers, live music and other performances, presentations, and engaging community activities.

Levita Mondie gave an informative presentation on the history of the Juneteenth flag, and Dr. Clara Small gave the keynote address while Cousins Cuttin’ Up and DJ Randy P hosted and entertained.

Sponsors for the 2025 Juneteenth in Caroline County event were the Caroline County Council of Arts, Edwards Driving Center, Minary’s Dream Alliance, Mt Pleasent Heritage Foundation, the Caroline County NAACP, Transpire Wellness, the Caroline County Public Library, Preston Automotive, Pep Up, Williams Bodywork LLC, Burke and Herbert Bank, Sue and John Simmons, Cars R Us, Debby Bennet and David Sutton, and Vantech Business Solutions - Preston Officeplex.
