Janice Doreen Hubbard Plutschak, 87, of Easton, MD, (formerly Hurlock, MD) passed away on July 7, 2026. Born on August 22, 1938, she was the daughter of James Edward Hubbard, Jr. and Clara Kline Shelly Hubbard of Oak St., Hurlock. She married Ernest H. (Bob) Plutschak on August 6, 1960, and shared 58 years of marriage until his death in 2018.

She attended Hurlock Elementary, Junior, and Senior High, and North Dorchester High School for grades 11-12, graduating with the Class of 1956, the second class to graduate from the newly built NDHS. She graduated from the State Teachers College at Salisbury in 1960 and did graduate work at Towson State, University of Maryland, and Salisbury State to attain the Master's Equivalency.

As a teenager, Janice worked at Fox's/Polan's Five and Dime and delivered dry cleaning for Hurlock Dry Cleaners. As a college student, she was a desk clerk at the Hamilton Hotel in Ocean City, MD.

Mrs. Plutschak was employed for 28 years by the Caroline County Board of Education, teaching Kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 at Federalsburg and Denton Schools. She also taught Adult Basic Ed., in the Migrant Program, and at Immanuel Lutheran Kindergarten in Preston.

She was a member of the Maryland and Caroline County Retired School Personnel and the national and local AARP.

Mrs. Plutschak was a member of Unity-Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock since age 12. She sang in the Adult Choir and was active as a pianist and accompanist. Janice treasured the great hymns of the church. She was a member of the Ruth and Naomi Circle, Mary Martha Circle, various committees, worked in the Nearly New Shop and served as its Treasurer, and wrote as church historian.

Janice is survived by her daughter Paula C. Nelson (Gene) of Honey Brook, PA; two step-grandsons, Joseph Nelson (Nicole) of Wadsworth, OH, and Jonathan Nelson (Beth) of Canton, OH; several cousins, nephews, nieces, cherished friends and former students fondly remembered.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Framptom Funeral Home, Federalsburg, MD. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 11:00 am at Unity-Washington United Methodist Church, Hurlock, MD, with Pastor Joseph Hayden officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be private.
