James E. Teat 75 of Greensboro passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Born on January 30, 1950, in Chestertown, Maryland, James was the son of the late Earl Benjamin Teat Sr. and Anna Elizabeth “Hessey” Teat. He served in Vietnam War for the US Army and was honorably discharged upon his return home. After, completing his service in the Army, James married his wife, Shirley, in 1973.
Together they made their home in Cordova, Maryland, in 1977, when James began to work on Standard Bread Horse Farm. In the 1980’s James started to work in construction, most recently working for George & Lynch, he truly appreciated his bosses James Chronic and Eddie Kenny. He was a member of Coastal Coon Hunters Club, Eastern Shore Jousting Association. James enjoyed running his rabbit dogs, crabbing and fishing out on the boat with his son and grandson, and playing cards with his friends as well as just taking a ride to visit with his buddies, and he had a deep appreciation for good food.
In addition to his parents James was predeceased by his siblings, Marian, May, Earl, Roy, Lola, Helen, Rodney, Philip and Lewis.
James is survived by his loving wife, Shirley and children, James Teat (Kimberly) of Denton, MD, Jennifer Carroll (Robert Jr.) of Greensboro, MD, Lori Henry (Andrew) of Bridgeville, DE, Rachel Dillmore (Christopher) of Milford, DE and his daughter by heart, Donna Kawalek. As well as sister, Doris Shaffer (Chuckie); Grandchildren Lacey, Kobi, Danielle and Damien; caregivers Angela Gibson (Slim Britches) and granddaughter Lacey Teat, a special great niece Maddie Teat along with his great-great niece and namesake Ellie Jaymes. James leaves behind his really close friends Frankie Sherwood, Matt Eisner, Pat Watson, Donnie & Diane Sherwood and his “little girlfriend” of 40 plus years Windy Sherwood. He had a remarkable ability to transform every encounter into a lasting friendship.
Above all James had an endless love for all of his family and friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 2 PM to 6 PM, with the ceremony beginning at 3 PM. at Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company Fireman's Community Hall.
