GREENSBORO – The Hannah Henry Circle out of Ridgely decided to spread the love of former educator Hannah Henry to a different local elementary school each year. This year, they visited Greensboro Elementary School, bringing muffins, roses, pens, and bookmarks for the teachers.
Hannah Henry was a beloved teacher who passed away in 2021 at the age of 107. She taught at the then-segregated school for Ridgely’s Black students. Henry continued teaching at Ridgely Elementary after integration, spending a total of 41 years educating the young people of Ridgely.
Carrying on her legacy is the Hannah Henry Circle, which is composed mostly of former students. There is now a road named Hannah Henry Way in Ridgely, and in 2019 the Ridgely Town Commissioners declared Henry’s birthday of April 8 ‘Hannah Henry Day.’
Before the first bell rang this April 8, the Hannah Henry Circle set up in the Greensboro Elementary cafeteria, handing out praise, gifts, and educational bookmarks about Henry’s life for the teachers and staff of Greensboro Elementary.
