Greensboro Town Council Resets Meeting Time

Posted

GREENSBORO – After pushing back Town Council meetings and workshops to 6:30 p.m. in an attempt to encourage citizen attendance, the Council voted at their Thursday, February 19 meeting to restore the original 6:00 p.m. time.

Councilmember Kim Ernest was the proponent of the change to 6:30 p.m., citing residents’ comments that the 6:00 p.m. meeting time was not conducive for working families who also wanted to take part in municipal life. The Council voted in favor of the later time in December, 2025.

After holding the January and February Council meetings and workshops at 6:30 p.m., Councilmember Pete Brelia said, “we've had the same people attending every time, whether 6:30 or 6:00, and we're keeping staff and our lawyers here longer.” The rest of the Council, including Ernest, agreed that the same faces had been in the crowd regardless of the time change. “We try to listen to the residents and their wants and their desires and their ideas, but participation is key,” Ernest said.
