GREENSBORO – Greensboro Police Department’s newest recruit, Officer Jeremy Eckel, was sworn in on Oct. 2 during the Greensboro Town Council meeting. Eckel has two and a half years of experience policing in Caroline County, having recently departed from the Federalsburg Police Department.

Greensboro’s Chief of Police Lennox Trams introduced Eckel to the Council and the “citizens of the wonderful town of Greensboro.” He said that Eckel’s experience in another Caroline County municipality was a plus as part of his selection process for a new officer was to “find police officers who understand small town policing.”

Eckel has also served in the Marine Corps and is currently in the Army National Guard. Despite all of this experience, he is only 27 years old. Chief Trams said, “We are very excited to be able to bring a younger perspective to our police force.”

Eckel is already making headway into his 80 hours of required field training alongside Chief Trams. “I don’t have to show him how to be a police officer, just how we do it here in the wonderful town of Greensboro,” Chief Trams said.

Mayor David Spencer conducted the swearing-in. Afterwards, Eckel said he is “happy to be here” and he “looks forward to getting to know” the citizens of Greensboro.
