Chief George W. Bacorn, Jr., Police Chief of Denton, MD, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026 as the result of an automobile crash in the line of duty. He was 62 years old.

Born in Bucks County, PA on August 3, 1964, Chief Bacorn was the son of the late George William Bacorn, Sr. and Shirley Carol Rogers Bacorn. He moved to Caroline County as a child, grew up in Greensboro, and was a 1982 graduate of North Caroline High School in Ridgely, MD.

Chief Bacorn joined the Denton Police Department in 1990, serving Denton for 36 years and was promoted to Police Chief in 2020. An excellent leader and devoted member of his community, Chief Bacorn served his community and profession in many ways. He was a member of the Municipal Police Executive Association (MMLPEA) of the MD Municipal League, Past President of FOP 118, served on the MD Police Training Commission, a member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Company, a past Commodore of the Choptank River Yacht Club, and was a member of Temple Lodge #128 AF&AM.

A devoted husband and father, Chief Bacorn is survived by his wife, Charmaine M. Bacorn of Denton; five sons: James C. Bacorn of Ocean City, MD, Joseph L. Bacorn (Crystal) of Denton, MD, Christopher Bacorn (Brittney) of Baltimore, MD, Michael W. Bacorn (Alyssa) of Ridgely, MD, and Jack C. Bacorn of Denton, MD; a sister, Diane Brittingham (Will) of Laurel, DE; thirteen grandchildren: Kayla, Jaidyn, Austin, Hayden, Cheyenne, Liam, Piper, Braxton, Ellie, Evelyn, Beau, Sawyer, and Mackenzie; three great grandchildren: Melody, DJ, and Cassandra, and many nieces.

Friends may visit with the family from 10 am until 12 Noon in the North Caroline High School auditorium (10990 River Rd., Ridgely, MD) on Saturday, October 3rd. A Masonic service will start at 12 Noon, immediately followed by a Line of Duty Celebration of Chief Bacorn’s life. The interment is private.
