Runners of all ages took to the back roads near Federalsburg on April 18, in honor of Merrill Morgan, longtime coach at Colonel Richardson High School.
The 5K race and 1 mile walk fundraiser was the fourth annual opportunity to raise money for Parkinson’s research and the Rock Steady Boxing program at the local YMCA. This year's event over $6,600.
Morgan died in 2022 at the age of 84, having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 19 years earlier. The Rock Steady Boxing program provides active exercise for those with the disease.
Morgan was the former boys’ head basketball coach and earned 485 career victories over his 38 seasons at Colonel. He led Colonel to the state finals in 1976, and reached the state semifinals in 1973, 1976, 1990 and 1995.
