FEDERALSBURG - The Town of Federalsburg announced on its Facebook page that , "Effective 1:00 Thursday, 8/14/2025, Town Hall will be open for business as usual."
Following closure as a precaution due to the discovery of black mold in mid-July, a Certified Mold Inspector firm has determined that the first floor of the building, located at 118 N. Main Street, is deemed safe, while the second floor will remain "completely sealed until remediation is fully completed," according to Council Member Brandy James.
The black mold was found concentrated on the second floor of the building. According to James, the first floor and second floor have separated ventilation systems, and no black mold was detected on the first floor. The certified mold inspector confirm that there is no black mold on the first floor. James said, "...air purifiers are operating on the first floor, which was also deep-cleaned and disinfected prior to reopening."
James shared an email from John Given, CIE, from MMTS Environmental LLC, which clearly states that concentrations and mold types are at levels safe for "town employees (to) work in this space right away."
During the town meeting on Aug. 4, 2025, Councilperson Brandy James stated that remediation experts found that the black mold on the second floor is the result of leakage from various areas of the building. The Mayor and Council are "exploring funding options to address the outstanding repairs," to mitigate the water leakage and allow for remediation on the second floor.
The Federalsburg Senior Center occupies the second floor of the Town Hall. The Upper Shore Aging staff and Center visitors are utilizing the Lions Club Building, at 100 Kinder St in Chambers Park.
