FEDERALSBURG - The Town of Federalsburg continues to work through data and information regarding rate schedule and operations of the town’s water and sewer systems to determine final proposed rate changes in order to modify its FY2026 budget. A public hearing originally scheduled for Dec. 15 was canceled during the meeting in which the hearing was to be held, and Mayor Kim Abner announced that the public hearing will be held on Feb. 2, 2026, during the Mayor and Councils regular meeting.
The Town of Federalsburg published proposed new rates for water and sewer usage in preparation for the Dec. 15 then-canceled public hearing. Abner stated that discrepancies have been discovered during the water meter audit by town staff, particularly with industrial and commercial users. The Mayor and Council are confident in the residential usage and water meter audit results. However, the discrepancies in industrial and commercial usage may impact overall rate structure and have an impact on proposed residential rate changes. The Mayor and Council voted to postpone the public hearing until Feb. 2, 2026.
The rates posted on the Town’s Facebook post on Dec. 14 as information for the Dec. 15 public hearing may be changed prior to the Feb. 2, 2026, public hearing.
