Posted

FEDERALSBURG - The Town of Federalsburg Mayor and Council held a regular business meeting on Nov. 3, 2025. The following items were discussed:

The public hearing for water and sewer rates that had been scheduled to occur at the beginning of this meeting was postponed to Dec. 1, 2025. At that time, the plan is to have the amended budget and updated water and sewer rates introduced and to hold a public hearing.

The town’s maintenance supervisor presented information on the costs for repairing the splash pad during the rash of vandalism in the summer. The amount that the town spent on those repairs alone, not including regular maintenance, was $7,000. The splash paid is currently “in complete disrepair,” according to name. His recommendation is to remove the splash pad. Councilperson Ian Ferguson and Mayor Kim Abner Mayor Kim Abner suggested keeping it open in 2026 with notices that if vandalism continued, it will be closed for 2027.

In addition to the cost of repairing and maintaining the splash pad, the issue is the policing of the area to mitigate regular acts of vandalism. The Mayor and Council decided to request that the Sheriff’s Office give more attention to visual surveillance via cameras to give the project an additional year, with the hope that increased police attention will halt vandalism.

She will do a deeper dive to get the system to single entry. She also confirmed that health insurance and cell phone service had not be cancelled for some employees who are no longer employed, and she reported that she is working with providers to on potentially getting refunds.

Mayor Abner reported that interviews will begin soon for Town Manager.
