Honoring Our Roots While Growing Forward

Posted

The Garden Club has just wrapped up planning our schedule of activities, speakers, and trips for the year ahead—our “year” beginning in September. It’s no small task to create a program that reflects the spirit of our group.

We are a vibrant spectrum of women, united by a shared love of gardening but enriched by the variety of our interests, talents, and life experiences. Together, we are constantly learning—not only from experts, but from each other.

Within our membership is a truly special group—women of a certain generation—whom we hold in the highest regard. In truth, we downright admire them.

These steadfast members have participated for decades, amassing a wealth of knowledge about gardening, birds, conservation, insects, floral design, and the natural world. They have led committees, served as officers, opened their homes for meetings, won ribbons for their inspired floral arrangements, and earned statewide recognition for our club. And, without question, they have pulled more weeds and planted more flowers than most of us can imagine.

Their contributions go beyond club work. They have stood beside one another through life’s joys and sorrows, offering friendship, encouragement, and support. They have guided the next generation of members and officers with insight, wisdom, and, when asked, thoughtful advice. With every “petal” of wisdom they share, they help us steward our club into its next chapter.

Our club will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027—a milestone made possible in large part by their dedication. In the meantime, we will honor members marking significant anniversaries of their own. Sadly, we have recently lost one of these extraordinary women, and her absence reminds us how important it is to express our gratitude while we can.

To those who continue to share their talents, wisdom, and friendship with us: thank you. You are the roots that keep our garden club growing in so many ways.
