Denton’s Market Street to turn into dining experience

Posted

During the evening of May 30, 2025, the 200 block of Market Street in Denton will be shut down to traffic. Instead of the usual steady stream of cars, the roadway will provide the foundation for a single long dining table. Gathered at the table will be business owners, town officials, and community members, all there to break bread at Downtown Denton Main Street’s annual Supper at Sunset event.

“Supper at Sunset is all about community. Our goal is to bring people together in the heart of downtown to share a beautiful meal, enjoy good conversation, and celebrate the charm of our local businesses,” said Downtown Denton Main Street Manager Jessica Willoughby.

While the organizers have experimented over the years with various set-ups, Willoughby says they are bringing back the single long table down Market Street because “There’s something so special about everyone gathering at one long table, sharing great food made by our downtown restaurants…It really captures the spirit of the event in the most beautiful way.”

Everything about Supper at Sunset, from the funds to the food to the decor, is homegrown Caroline County. The menu will feature selections from Denton restaurants such as Caroline’s, The Market Street Pub, the Chesapeake Culinary Center, and more. And local vendors like Patti’s Petals provide all the necessary accessories to make the event pop. “It truly takes a village,” Willoughby said, “our Downtown Main Street team organizes the event, but we couldn’t do it without the incredible support of local sponsors, generous benefactors, talented chefs, and, of course, our volunteers.”

According to Willoughby, nothing compares to the natural beauty of the sunset over downtown Denton. Combined with the great food and good company, the event provides “a chance to slow down and connect—something truly special in today’s busy world.”

Supper at Sunset and events like it are one of the many ways that Denton retains its small-town appeal in a world that seems to be moving away from these traditions. Willoughby says if you’ve never been, then now is the time. “It’s one of those events that makes you fall in love with your town all over again.”
