Denton Floats Crouse Park Bulkhead Renovation Plans

Posted

DENTON – Boaters who launch at Crouse Memorial Park in Denton will be able to utilize a new and improved bulkhead later this year, but the project may cause deferments to other local boat ramps once construction begins.

The Denton Town Council approved a bid from Bay Coastal Contracting, LLC in the amount $282,714 to renovate the bulkhead at Crouse Park. According to Denton Mayor Dr. Abby McNinch, “DNR waterway improvement funds will be used to cover $249,999 of the costs. The remaining $32,715 will be funded through the town of Denton Parks and CIP fund.”

The request for bids first went out in January. Four companies submitted bids, of which Bay Coastal was the lowest. DNR concurred with Denton town staff that Bay Coastal was the best choice.  Getchell admitted that once Bay Coastal starts work there will be “some disruption” and boaters will most likely be deferred to the public boat launch at Martinak State Park. “As of right now, it looks like this will not occur until the fall of this year,” said Town Manager Scott Getchell in an email sent to Caroline Review.News on April 8.

Mayor McNinch said the Crouse Park ramp is “really well used”, so the new bulkhead will be an asset to the community.
