The Denton Cemetery will again be an official location for Wreaths Across America in 2025. To be held on national Wreaths Across America Day on December 13, the ceremony will begin at noon at the cemetery. This will be the second time that the ceremony will be held in Denton and plans are to make it an annual event.
The effort is being jointly coordinated by the Rotary Club of Denton and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 29. The event was first held in Denton in 2024 and was started by local Boy Scout Billy Quick as his Eagle Scout service project. The national Wreaths Across America organization launched the wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992 and it has spread to cemeteries across the country and beyond.
“This project is important to me and fellow Rotarians. Not only does it commemorate, it reminds us all, especially younger generations, of the legacy that each veteran has left behind,” said Denton Rotary President Sue Simmons.
The Denton Cemetery needs 400 sponsored veteran wreaths, enough to lay a wreath on the headstone of every local hero laid to rest there. Wreath sponsorships can be customized to honor a loved one or placed on a specific grave.
“Placing a wreath on every veteran’s grave ensures that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country will never be forgotten,” said Commander Chuck Pittinger, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 29. “We work to remember the fallen, honor those who currently serve and teach the next generation about the sacrifices made for our freedom.”

Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that has grown into a national, yearlong movement of dedicated volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service, but to teach the next generation about the value of freedom.
This year, there will be more than 4,900 participating locations placing veterans’ wreaths on National Wreaths Across America Day – Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025 – with more than three million volunteers coming together.
