David L. Mitchell, born on July 21, 1951, peacefully entered the gates of heaven on April 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Betty Jean Bright Mitchell and the grandson of Bob and Annie Bright. He is survived by his father, Vernon Mitchell, and stepmother, Patricia Mitchell; his cherished son and daughter-in-law Trevor and Becky, along with granddaughter Alayna and grandson Landon, whom he adored beyond measure. The love of his life, Sally Marvel, was his “phe” heart. Additional survivors include Trevor’s mother, Carol Ann Mitchell; stepdaughter, Renee Dodd; and step grandson, Tristan Dodd. David also leaves behind two sisters, Brenda (Buddy) Gulrich of Marydel, and Ellen (William Wyatt) of Harrington, along with nieces Erica Gulrich Walker, Mary Ellen Boyd, and nephews Duane Jr., Shane Mitchell, and Clint Dagger, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
In heaven, David is reunited with his two brothers, Dennis Mitchell and Duane Mitchell Sr., his niece Erin Dagger, and stepmother Cornelia Mitchell.
David's passions included a deep love for pets, restoring cars, and hunting. Throughout his life, he cared for many dogs, but Tootsie held a special place in his heart. His first restoration project was a '66 Nova, followed by Trevor’s '69 Nova and a '66 Chevelle; he was also working on a '65 Chevelle. A former member of the Rough Riders, David enjoyed many adventures with them. He retired from Choptank Electric and most recently worked with Nutrien AG Solutions in Centreville, MD.
Known for giving the best hugs and often saying “Bless their hearts” when speaking of children, David will always be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family will deeply miss his sense of humor, warm smiles, heartfelt hugs, and boundless love, as will everyone who knew him.
“Bless your heart, David.”
Throughout his life, David cared for many pets, including ponies, horses, cats, dogs, goats, rabbits, and chickens. To honor David’s love for animals, please consider making donations to the Caroline County Humane Society at 407 West Bell St., Ridgely, MD 21660, in lieu of flowers.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 6-8 PM at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, located at 106 W. Sunset Ave, Greensboro, MD 21639. Services will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025, beginning at 2 PM at Fleegle & Helfenbein, with interment to follow at the Greensboro Cemetery.
