Christine Mae Burris (Chris) of Marydel passed away on March 8, 2025 in Kent General Hospital. She was 80 years old.
Christine was born in the same hospital on March 22, 1944, to the late Elmer H. Ware and Viola E. Ware. She married her husband, Harry, in 1962, and subsequently devoted herself to raising their four children at home full-time. Occasionally, she worked at San-Del Packing before earning her CNA certification from Chesapeake College. Christine later became employed at the Wesley Center in Greensboro, MD, and eventually retired from the Home for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, DE. She had a passion for preparing large family meals, nurturing her flowers and potted plants, and enjoyed going out dancing while listening to live music. Even after retirement, she continued to be a caregiver at heart. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry, 2 sons, Rocky and Melvin Burris, a grandson, Melvin Jr. (JR), and granddaughter Cristi Gingerich, 2 great-granddaughters, Kelsi and Lexi and a great-grandson baby Rocky.
Christine is survived by her son, Eugene (Gene) Burris (Niesha) from Goldsboro, a daughter, Patricia A. Burris of Kenton, and her brother, Elmer (Junior) Ware of Marydel. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Eugene (Sonny) Burris Jr. (Cati) from Dover, DE, Maj. Joshua Burris (Tara) from Navarre, FL, Michelle Burris (Charlie) from TN, Rocky Burris Jr. from Greensboro, MD, John Burris (Stephanie) from Greensboro, MD, and Shelby Parker (Scott) from Denton, MD. Additionally, Christine is remembered by 21 great-grandchildren, as well as one nephew and two nieces.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home in Greensboro, MD, from 11 AM to 12 PM, followed by a service. Interment will take place at Greensboro Cemetery afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society of Salisbury, MD.
