Charles Ray LeCompte Sr. “Charlie”, 84, of Greensboro, passed away on October 17, 2025, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Easton, MD.
Born on November 24, 1940, in Felton, DE, he was the son of the late George LeCompte and Beulah Short LeCompte. Charlie attended Greensboro High School before serving in the United States Army for three years. After his honorable discharge, he discovered a passion for truck driving and went on to become a self-employed driver. Even after retiring, Charlie continued to drive part-time for Murphy’s, doing pool fills—he was known by many as a workaholic.
Charlie had a lifelong love of racing, which began in his youth when he raced ponies. That love grew into a passion for working on and driving his race car. He also enjoyed water skiing in his younger days. Later in life, he found joy in simpler things like gardening and took particular pride in his pole beans.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Charlie is survived by the love of his life, his wife Mary Jane LeCompte of Greensboro; his two children, daughter, Virginia Porter (Chuck) and son, Rick LeCompte (Dawn), both of Greensboro; a granddaughter, Jennifer Becke (Jesse) of Greensboro and one brother, William LeCompte (Elaine) of Greensboro. His legacy lives on with his many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
