Established in 2013, Mid-Shore Restoring Hope in Women began with the goal of helping women entering local recovery homes by raising funds to cover their first two weeks of residency. Over the years, the organization has expanded its mission, purchasing a home in Federalsburg where it now provides a safe living environment for up to seven women.
The organization received a $10,000 grant from The Caroline Foundation last year – funding that will help them continue supporting women transitioning between active addiction, recovery treatment centers or incarceration, and sobriety.
Sherry Collier of Mid-Shore Restoring Hope in Women said the funds provide each resident with up to 30 days of housing, removing an immediate financial barrier and allowing women to focus on rebuilding their lives through employment, peer support, and other community resources.
Collier explained that safe housing is a critical piece of recovery, giving women the stability needed to focus on healing and long-term success. The organization’s work supports not only individuals experiencing substance use and mental health challenges but also their families and the broader community. “By offering access to resources that inspire healing, we facilitate lasting transformation for both the women we serve and their families,” Collier said.
As a nonprofit organization, grants play an important role in maintaining operations and ensuring continued access to services. Funding from The Caroline Foundation helps cover program costs and allows Mid-Shore Restoring Hope in Women to continue providing the supportive environment that local women need as they work toward recovery and reintegration into the community.
