Compass Regional Hospice provides compassionate healthcare and support services for individuals and families navigating serious illness, end-of-life care, and grief. The nonprofit offers hospice care, palliative care, and grief support programs for those of all ages, including counseling, support groups, school-based programs, and Camp New Dawn, a camp designed to support children who have experienced grief.
Last November, the organization received funding from The Caroline Foundation to help bolster its ability to serve patients and families throughout Caroline County. “Receiving this grant means a great deal to Compass,” Hayley Greenwood, Compass’ Marketing & Web Specialist, “as a nonprofit, community-based hospice organization, grant support helps us continue providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients and families throughout our community.” Compass plans to use the funding to support programs, resources, equipment, staff support, and operational needs that directly impact the quality of care provided to local residents.
While hospice care is often associated with end-of-life medical services, Greenwood emphasized that Compass’ work extends far beyond physical treatment. The organization focuses on caring for the whole person — including emotional, spiritual, and social needs — while also supporting families and caregivers. “Our services help people remain comfortable, maintain dignity, and receive expert care at the end of life,” she said.
Greenwood said that grant funding is especially important for nonprofit healthcare organizations, as it helps bridge the gap between reimbursement and the true cost of providing comprehensive care. These investments allow Compass to remain responsive to community needs and continue serving patients and families regardless of the complexity of their circumstances.
