Caroline Foundation Grant Recipient Spotlight: YMCA of the Chesapeake

Thanks to the Caroline Foundation, the YMCA of the Chesapeake is continuing its mission of community-centered service in Caroline County. As a “non-profit, Christian based organization committed to helping people reach their full potential in spirit, mind and body,” the Y serves individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and income levels, ensuring accessibility for all.

“Partnerships like this help us continue impacting the communities we serve and ensure we’re reaching those who need us most,” said Kerry Daly, “It allows us to continue responding to individual community needs with intention and care.”

With this funding, the YMCA of the Chesapeake plans to expand programs that promote healthy living across Caroline County. Daly said that when they were applying for the grant, YMCA representatives focused on “addressing specific local needs, including access to wellness opportunities, youth development programs, and programs that support individuals at every stage of life.” Daly stressed that this broadness and flexibility is important, as it allows resources to be used “where they will have the greatest, most immediate impact.”

The YMCA’s approach to health extends far beyond the popular view of them as just a gym. “At the Y, we believe health is about more than physical fitness – it’s about the whole person and the whole community,” Daly said. That includes supporting physical health through fitness programs and social health by “bringing people together across generations and backgrounds.”

“We intentionally design programs that reduce barriers to access,” Daly explained. She emphasized that “a healthier community is one where everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive.”

“Grants like those from the Caroline Foundation are essential to sustaining and growing our mission-driven work,” Daly said, “This kind of funding allows us to remain responsive, innovative, and deeply rooted in the communities we serve.”
