Caroline Foundation Grant Recipient Spotlight: Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore

Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore is celebrating a major investment in its work with Caroline County students after receiving a $50,000 grant from the Caroline Foundation. The Caroline Foundation marked its 10th anniversary this year by expanding both the causes it supports and its total giving, distributing $1 million to local organizations. JA was among the recipients recognized during a November 6 breakfast at the Chesapeake Culinary Center. This was JA’s first time receiving a grant from the Foundation.

“We were thrilled to receive a $50,000 grant, which fully supports transportation and student programming opportunities for students in Caroline County,” said Erin Williamson, JA’s Advancement Director, “We’re so grateful to have the resources to directly impact students’ access to these programs.”

The funding will be used entirely for student learning experiences, covering curriculum, materials, transportation to the Perdue Henson JA Center, and hands-on activities designed to build career readiness and financial literacy. Williamson said the goal is to ensure all students, regardless of their background or circumstances, can participate in experiences that help them prepare for their future.

The Caroline Foundation normally funds programs that meet basic needs, like food or healthcare. But while addressing these needs is essential for student wellbeing, Williamson pointed out that broadening opportunities for students to gain knowledge and confidence in their chosen career field is just as critical. JA’s work, she said, gives students exposure to new skills and pathways that can influence their long-term economic mobility. “A better tomorrow starts with showing students what’s possible today,” Williamson said.

Grants like this are a key part of keeping those opportunities available. “While we receive support from schools, volunteers, and donors, grants allow us to sustain and grow our programs, reach more students, and keep experiences free for families,” Williamson explained, “Sustainable funding supports both JA and the schools we partner with.”

Williamson also emphasized the impact of community volunteers. For those interested in lending a helping hand or sharing their real-world wisdom, opportunities to volunteer can be found at easternshoreja.volunteerhub.com.
