Destiny and Delvin Horst opened their By Faith Coffee trailer in August 2024 in Preston and have gained a growing and loyal following in the past 10 months.
The mobile trailer is their version of a food truck, and it can be found regularly from 6:30 a.m. to noon Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at Safehouse, 215 Main St., Preston, and from 7 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton. On Saturdays, the By Faith Coffee trailer and crew can be found at fairs, festivals, and private events.
“I always dreamed of having a coffee business, a coffee shop,” Destiny said. “My husband has always been entrepreneurial-minded, and he supported my vision.”
Delvin said he and Destiny’s father, Harlan Good of Federalsburg, custom-built the coffee trailer from a car trailer.
Creating By Faith Coffee Co. has been a lot of work, and, as the name suggests, it’s a faith-based business.
“We’re Bible-believing Christians, and we want to show Christ’s caring,” Destiny said. “We want Jesus to shine through our trailer.”
The Horsts run their business with the help of three employees. Eventually they would like to grow and expand.
“I enjoy drinking coffee and learning about coffee,” Destiny said. “I’m loving it so far.”
The hospital location really helped them get established, she added. They had heard of other food trucks there, so they made a connection and got permission to set up outside the hospital.
“It was a hit,”she said, and they’ve been back each week since.
In addition to coffees and espressos, the trailer serves lemonades, refreshers, hot chocolate, and homemade baked items: cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins, and cinnamon coffeecake. The honey they use is locally sourced from Windy Way Farms in Hurlock. Their coffee comes from a family-owned business in Ohio.
To find upcoming locations for By Faith Coffee, check the Facebook page, Destiny said, adding they keep it updated.
This coming Saturday, June 14, By Faith Coffee will be onsite at Smithson’s Christian Chapel and Christian School on Hog Creek Road for the church’s chicken barbecue fundraiser.
Events kick off at 7 a.m. with a yard sale, breakfast sandwiches and a bake sale, followed at 11 a.m. by the chicken barbecue, and continue until the chicken is sold out, Destiny said, adding that By Faith Coffee will donate a portion of its proceeds from the day to the church.
