Caroline County Public Schools (CCPS) is celebrating a growing number of high school students earning Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs) through their Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs—an achievement that is helping students build real-world skills and strengthen their post-graduation opportunities. IRCs validate students’ knowledge in high-demand fields such as healthcare, culinary arts, automotive, and cosmetology, giving them a competitive edge as they enter the workforce or continue their education.
Across the county, students are engaging in rigorous coursework, hands-on training, and certification exams aligned with state and national standards. These credentials signal to employers that CCPS graduates are career-ready and able to contribute immediately on the job. For many students, earning an IRC also boosts confidence and provides a tangible milestone that affirms their hard work and future goals.
CCPS is now exploring opportunities to expand credentialing beyond traditional CTE classes. The district plans to introduce IRC pathways in additional content areas such as computer science, engineering, and core academic courses where appropriate. This expansion will allow more students—regardless of their chosen pathway—to access meaningful, career-aligned learning experiences.
“Our goal is to ensure that every student leaves CCPS with more than a diploma,” said Lindsey McCormick. “By broadening credentialing opportunities, we are preparing students for college, careers, and life with skills that are recognized and valued.”
Through continued partnerships, innovative programming, and a commitment to student success, CCPS is paving the way for expanded IRC opportunities that will benefit learners across all schools.
