Book Garden on Gannon named 'Good Morning, America' winner

Posted

Little Free Library steward Tammy Coulbourne of Preston recently announced her Book Garden on Gannon (LFL #134292) was named a winner of “Good Morning, America” Book Club’s May selection, ''The Original Daughter,'' the debut novel by Jemimah Wei and will receive two copies of the book.

Reading is one of life’s little pleasures, Coulbourne said. She wants to promote reading and free thinking.

She chartered the Book Garden on Gannon next to the street in front of her house as an official Little Free Library in 2021. Her husband built the structure, which she keeps filled with books for children and adults and even occasional seasonal treats – such as filled plastic eggs for Easter.

“Good Morning, America” donates books to 100 LFLs every month. The Book Garden on Gannon was also a winner in November. It also has received books from Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club and through Good Reads contests.

Coulbourne said she enjoys keeping the library stocked with new or nearly new books. She scouts library book sales and book festivals, other Little Free Libraries, and enters a variety of contests offering book prizes.

“When we travel, I like to bring something back, to share experiences,” she said. She has exchanged books in Canada, Nova Scotia, and England.

The Book Garden is located on a cul-de-sac on Gannon Road, near Choptank. New titles are often announced on the LFL’s Facebook page.

Books in the Book Garden are stamped: “Always A Gift, Never For Sale.” Visitors are welcome to stop by and choose a title. They are welcome to make book donations of their own, but it isn’t necessary, Coulbourne said.
