Benedictine is Revving Up for Annual Chrome City Fundraiser

Posted

Benedictine is heating up as the students and staff prepare for the annual Chrome City event, which is being held Saturday, September 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Born in 2003 as a strictly motorcycle-based showcase, Chrome City has grown into a staple event for Benedictine. Not only does it provide an opportunity for entertainment and community building, the funds raised directly support Benedictine's mission of supporting “children and adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they can achieve their greatest potential.” Past events have raised as much as $145,000 in just one day.

During Chrome City, motorcycles, hot rods, and classic cars get to parade down the Benedictine campus’s mile-long lane (a sight you don’t want to miss, according to Benedictine’s Executive Director Scott Evans) as they are registered and parked. As guests peruse the lineup, judges choose winners in both motorcycle and car categories – last year’s event saw hundreds of vehicles.

With an event this large and storied, there are bound to be some traditions. Evans explained to Delmarva Life that each year there is a new t-shirt design, and these t-shirts have become something of a “collector’s item.” Registrants can look forward to receiving one of these commemorative shirts, as well as a car plaque, as long as they’re one of the first 50 registered.

Outside of the cool cars and motorcycles, the community is invited to the campus in Ridgely to simply look around, meet the folks at Benedictine, and, of course, enjoy the food trucks, entertainment, and other vendors. Some of the creative adults that are supported by Benedictine even have their own vendor booths!

Benedictine is still accepting donations to support the Chrome City event, as well as registrants for those with a unique set of wheels to show off. Those interested can visit https://benschool.org/chrome-city-fundraiser/ to learn more.
