Caroline County native, Amanda Blunt, recently opened her home-based florist shop, Enchanted Blooms outside of Preston. The shop may be tiny on the outside, but it will give you a big smile when you go inside.
Visitors are greeted with wonderful floral aromas and the bright selection of refrigerated flowers, decorative vases, baskets, teddy bears, candles and hand-crafted gift cards. After 12 years in the floral industry Amanda knows the ins and outs of the business, and if she doesn't have what you need she can get it within 24 hours.
"I've always liked decorating," Amanda says, "and this business is like therapy for me. It's like I can paint with flowers. I used to love gardening, but now I can't use a shovel or dig in the grass."
Amanda has faced many challenges such as raising four children on her own, and a tragic car accident that led to a massive stroke 11 years ago. "I'm so thankful I have a chance to do anything like this,” Amanda says, "no one thought I would talk or walk again. It took me until now to accept what happened. This business is a huge thing for me!"
Amanda's spirit is testament to aspiring entrepreneurs! "Don't let your dreams go!" she says, "sometimes you have to start small to get big. And don't let finances stop you; there's always a way if it's something you really want.”
Amanda helps customers create unique gifts for birthdays, weddings, bridal showers, holidays, funerals, proms, and homecoming. She also offers subscription services where on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly plan, you can have flowers sent to your loved ones on a regular basis. She creates gift boxes that have flowers on one side and a carafe of coffee with snacks on the other side - perfect for an office party or meeting. Amanda hosts Lady's Night once a month, where she teaches the secrets of making a flower arrangement.
Sasha, Amanda’s Maltese Pomeranian, is always around to meet and greet.
