DENTON – Since moving into their new location on 6th Street in Denton, Aaron’s Place Executive Director Cheryl Beulah said the amount of folks walking into the resource center has increased by 20 to 25 percent. Those whom they serve in their regular food distribution days have also increased, up to 1,300 families according to Beulah. Of those, she said “less than 2%” come from other counties, “outside of that, it’s Caroline County.”
To keep this vital food distribution aspect of Aaron’s Place, Beulah said they will need a secondary location to avoid jamming up 6th Street. But the task of finding a suitable space has proved to be too difficult for Beulah and her volunteer partners to manage, so she attended the April 7 Caroline County Commissioners meeting to ask for financial support to hire a third party to conduct a feasibility study.
The study would provide “information she would need to effectively make decisions,” said Terry Fearins. Supporter Beth Brewster added that Aaron’s Place could much more efficiently and successfully apply for grants if they had the information from a feasibility study. Beulah, Brewster, and Fearins asked for the Commissioner’s support in applying for a $75,000 Community Block Grant to complete the study.
After assuring the Commissioners that the grant funds, if received, would be reported on diligently, the Commissioners agreed to send a letter of approval. Beulah said she hopes to find a location for the food distribution that is a “safe and comfortable environment.”
